I remember when the Account Management was called Account Service or Client Service. More recently it has been variously known as Account Management, Brand Management and the insulting one… Project Management
But let’s consider another option… Account Leadership.
Management is all about handling complexity. It is putting processes together that allow us to complete projects and measure results. Management was born in large companies like General Motors and Ford to turn out many copies of the same product with a high level of quality control.
You have plenty of managing to do to keep projects on time and within budgets, while ensuring a high level of quality.
But in an Agency you’ll be turning out a different product every time, so you have to align people behind new ideas. You have to define the right direction for the Brand and take people down that path.
That’s Leadership. And that is where you can and must make your biggest contribution.
